英語は語順で話す：第４文型（例文たっぷり）

目的語を２つとる文型。
主語(Subject)＋動詞(Verb)＋間接目的語(Object₁)+直接目的語(Object₂)
（主語）が（間接目的語）に（直接目的語）を（動詞）する
補語は取らないので動詞は、第３文型と同じく完全他動詞。
- I gave her a direction. 私は彼女に道順を教えた
- He asked me a question. 彼は私に質問をした
目的語になるのは、名詞・代名詞・名詞相当語句 (to不定詞・動名詞・名詞節)
★ 直接目的語が it の時は、普通、第４文型ではなく〔イギリスの話し言葉ではok〕、第３文型にします。例えば、I handed him it ではなく I handed it to him〔第３文型〕。
第４文型になる動詞：ask, bear, cost, envy, owe, play, post, refuse, take, throw, wish などや授与動詞（allot, award, build, grant, leave, offer, pass, pay, promise, show, teach, tell, throw, write, call, find, order, prepare, save, spareなど）
★直接目的語が節の場合
He told me that sv〔※ tell は必ず伝える相手を言う〕
He asked (me) if sv
- I told her that she should see a doctor. 彼女に医者に診てもらうよう言った
- I instructed her that Dr. Right was at the clinic nearby. ライト先生は近くの診療所だと教えてあげた
- She assured me that she would see the doctor. 彼女は私にその先生に確かに診てもらうと言った
- She convinced me that she was not lying. 彼女は嘘をついていないことを私に納得させた
- She informed me that she had seen the doctor. 彼女はその医者に診てもらったと私に告げた
「誰に」と言うなら（任意）前置詞 to が必須で、第４文型にならない動詞
I said /spoke / talked (to him) that sv
I explained / proved / requested / suggested (to him) that sv
その他〔ＳＶＯ＋that節〕にならない動詞：
expect (期待する), order (命じる), propose (提案する), recommend (推奨する), require (命ずる), urge (強く主張する), want (欲する), attempt, care, decline, hate, like, offer, refuse, try
- I like (it) that you can cook. や - I like it when you cook. は口語とされるけれども、前者などは第５文型と考えられると思う（要・専門家の意見確認）。
★ 授与動詞（「誰かに何かを（して）あげる」という意味の動詞）の第３文型への書き換えはよく試験に出る。【語順を変える】直接目的語を動詞のすぐ後に言い、「だれに」と言うのを前置詞を用いて後で言う。
動作の対象には to ：I bring / give / hand / pay / read / sell / send something to you.
恩恵の対象には for：I bring / buy / cook / get / make / read / sell something for you.
- I'll fax you the document right away. 今すぐその書類をあなたにファックスします（→ I'll fax the document to you right away.）
- Bring me your homework. 宿題を私に持ってきてください（→ Bring your homework to me.）
- He left his wife a fortune. 彼は奥さんに財産を残して死んだ（→ He left a fortune to his wife.）
- I recommend you this book. あなたにこの本をお薦めします〔recommend B A / recommend A to B A(物)をB(人)に推奨する〕（→ I recommend this book to you.）
- I'll cook you something. 何か料理してあげますね（→ I'll cook something for you.）
- I bought my family Christmas presents. 家族にクリスマスプレゼントを買いました
- He found her a seat. 彼は彼女に座席を見つけてあげた
- Will you bring her a chair? 彼女にイスを持って行ってあげてくれる？
- I left you some pizza in the oven. オーブンにあなたの分のピザを残してあります
- Shall I get you something to drink? 何かお飲物をお持ちしましょうか？
- I'll get us a big bucket of popcorn. ポップコーンの大きいバケツ入りを買ってくるね〔will はたった今決めたたこと（あるいは意志の有る無し）に使う〕
- I'm going to get us a room for the party. 私がパーティーの部屋を確保します〔be going to はすでに決まっていることに使う〕
- The doctor ordered me sleeping pills. 医者が私に睡眠薬を言いつけた〔order B A / order A for B A(医者)が〜をB(患者)に指図する〕（→ The doctor ordered sleeping pills for me.）
- The doctor ordered the patient (to take) a long rest. 医者は患者に長期の療養を勧めた
３．その他の第３文型に変換可能な動詞
★【受験生】 ask は第３文型にする際 of を使う〔of は古い時代に from の意味で使われた名残りがある〕
- I asked him a big favor. 私は彼に厚かましいお願いをした
（→ I asked a big favor of him.）〔礼儀正しい頼み方／※ Questionに of は固すぎるため、普通 I'd like to ask you a question やI have a question for you と言う〕
make も「～を～にする」の意味の時、 of を使って第３文型にできる。
- Thus conscience does make cowards of us all. (Shakespeare)
- Don't make it a habit. » Don't make a habit of it.
- make an enemy a friend » make a friend of an enemy
play は、第３文型にする際 on を使う
- He played me a trick. 彼は私にいたずらをした
（→ He played a trick on me.）
★ 上記以外の動詞は、安易に第３文型に書き替えないのが無難です。
(正) My computer cost (me) $1000. 私のコンピュータは1000ドルした〔me があって第４文型だが me をつけると口語的〕
(誤) My computer cost $1000 on me.（ネイティブ・チェック済）
(正) I envy you your trip. あなたの旅行がうらやましいです
(誤) I envy your trip for you.
I envy you for your trip. (ネイティブ曰く、これなら自然に聞こえる)
(正) Your advice has saved me a lot of money.
Your advice has saved a lot of money for me. (ネイティブ曰く、これでもいいけれども上記の方を好む)

Cows provide us with milk.〔第３文型〕
